BSc degree of Computer Science and Technology in 1997, and PhD degree of Computer Software and Theory in 2002 from Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University. From 2002 to 2005, he did his Postdoc at Cambridge University, UK.

He has published over 200 articles in high-impact journals or conferences such as TKDE, TOIS, VLDBJ, IPM, IoT, WWWJ, HISC, SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, AAAI, SIGIR, WWW, ACL, IJCAI, CIKM and EMNLP. He holds 27 patents of invention and 25 software copyrights.

# Research

  • AI and Database Systems: AI and database systems are two powerful tools to help people to simplify their life by being used in the information systems. Our work includes two parts:

    AI4DB: The machine learning, deep learning and LLM are used in database systems to improve their performance.

    DB4AI: Prepare the data in the database to be a reasonable dataset, thus enhance the effectiveness of the AI algorithms.

  • Data Lifecycle Management (DLM): It  is a approach for managing the flow of data within information systems throughout its entire lifecycle. Specifically, it involves the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital resources to ultimately support reuse activities such as research, business and policy-making. The data lifecycle includes, but is not limited to, stages such as planning, collection, transmission, storage, processing, utilization, analysis, and decommissioning. The construction of the data lifecycle requires flexible selection and reasonable application based on different task objects. We build a DLM platform to manage the datasets from the research or business.
  • Data Fusion and Exploration: The massive data that need to be processed in business typically come from multiple data sources. Data from these different sources often exhibits significant differences in format, structure, semantics, and quality. To bridge or eliminate these differences, it is necessary to establish or adhere to relevant standards, and perform operations such as data cleaning, transformation, enhancement, and fusion, ultimately forming a unified, traceable, and high-quality dataset. Based on knowledge graphs, we have developed a comprehensive set of data fusion methods that can integrate massive, multi-source, and heterogeneous data, thereby supporting business operations and decision-making. In the process of utilizing this data, we have developed interactive data exploration methods that can detect user intent and recommend relevant datasets.
  • Health/Medicine Data Management: Health data management is a critical issue in the medical field today, encompassing various aspects such as data collection, storage, processing, sharing, and security. High-quality health data of a certain scale is essential for Real World Study. We have collaborated with Anzhen Hospital to establish a data center for the Cardiovascular Big Data Alliance, worked with 301 Hospital to develop a pre-hospital emergency system that connects pre-hospital care with the operating room, partnered with Tsinghua Changgung Hospital to assist in the diagnosis of sepsis and knee osteoarthritis, collaborated with Peking University People's Hospital to optimize medical procedures using multimodal data, jointly developed a medical-oriented large model with the Peking University Medical Big Data Center, and co-created a platform for doctors' diagnosis, treatment, and research based on large models with YiduCloud.
  • Knowledge Graph-Enhanced Data Lakes:  Data lakes offer significant advantages in terms of storage diversity, scalability, and flexibility. However, they also present challenges in management and governance, data quality control, and the complexity of data analysis. To address these issues, we have enhanced the data lake by leveraging knowledge graph technology, building a big data management and service platform. Using this platform, we standardize entities and relationships within the data lake and employ underlying parallel processing technologies to conduct efficient data analysis.
